Planner for 2010 ceremonies definitely a big-picture man

VANCOUVER — When you hear what happened to David Atkins during the opening ceremony of the 2006 Asian Games, it makes you wonder why the guy would ever voluntarily put himself through such an exercise again.

As executive producer of the Asian Games' opening and closing ceremonies, Atkins lived in the desert city of Doha, capital of Qatar, for two years, making preparations. During that time, Doha received virtually no rain.
