Home listings up 43% in '08

New residential MLS listings in Alberta rose by 43% in January over the same period last year, while the number of unit sales dropped by 25%, says a report issued by the Canadian Real Estate Association.

At the same time, the price of an average Alberta home, as measured by the average MLS (multiple listing service) price, rose by 9% in January over last year, to $357,574 from $327,560. Dollar volumes of unit sales dropped by 18% to $1.4 billion.
