Layton wants action on inaccurate gas pumps

OTTAWA - As gas prices continue to climb, NDP Leader Jack Layton says the federal government needs to act now to protect Canadian consumers from possible "fraudulent" activity at the country's gas stations.

On Saturday, an Ottawa Citizen investigation revealed that about one in 20 pumps shortchanges the consumer - errors that have cost Canadians millions of dollars.

"This confirms the suspicion that millions of Canadians have had," said Layton. "That they are being hosed at the pump."
