'Green Shift' name taken, company says

Lawyers for a Toronto-based environmental organization issued a cease and desist order yesterday to the Liberal Party of Canada, demanding that it stop using the name "Green Shift" for its carbon tax policy platform released last week.

Jennifer Wright, president of Green Shift Inc., says Stephane Dion's "Green Shift" policy has already created confusion between her group's work and the Liberals' signature program.

The Liberals' policy inevitably imparts a political bias to her organization, Ms. Wright added.

Green Shift Inc., which has been registered since 2001, works to encourage environmentally responsible processes and products and has dealt with clients in the NDP and Liberal parties, as well as high-profile businesses including Microsoft, Deloitte and Touche, McKinsey and Co., and Canada Post.
