New Christmas CDs include classics, dogs barking, heavy-metal makeovers

TORONTO - Songs from the dead and comforting classics are among the plentiful options - some more enticing than others - for record buyers this holiday season.

There are dozens of new Christmas-themed CDs fighting for shelf space at stores this year, including big-name releases from the likes of Aretha Franklin, Faith Hill, Sheryl Crow, Tony Bennett, Sarah Brightman, Enya, Yo-Yo Ma, Brian McKnight, Melissa Etheridge, Harry Connick Jr. and Canadian Loreena McKennitt.

And way too many others to mention.

Through the magic of the music industry, several stars have been brought back from the dead for "new" releases of Christmas music, including Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash and Dean Martin.
