HAMILTON — David Desharnais scored in regulation and added the shootout winner as the Hamilton Bulldogs rallied to beat the Rochester Americans 4-3 in American Hockey League action Sunday.
The Americans roared to a quick start, scoring three times in the first period.
David Brine opened the scoring when he blasted a slap shot that was tipped past Hamilton starting goaltender Marc Denis by Karl Stewart at 1:29 of the first.
Kenndal McArdle gave the Americans (9-22-0-3) a 2-0 lead at 4:39 after he skated behind the net and jammed the puck past Denis on the short side.
The Bulldogs allowed their third short-handed goal in two games at 11:28. Janis Sprukts and Stewart skated in on a two-on-one before Sprukts fired a shot that was saved by Denis. The rebound bounced right onto the stick of Stewart, allowing him to bank the puck into the back of the net.
